Day 1: Gentle Giants and a Lion Rock

Your Sri Lankan journey begins with amazing animals and an ancient wonder.

Morning: Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage

After you arrive, your first stop is Pinnawala. This is a special home for elephants. Here, you can watch dozens of elephants play and bathe in the river. It is a wonderful sight. You can see baby elephants being fed milk. It’s a perfect start to your trip.

Afternoon: Climb Sigiriya Rock

Next, you will travel to Sigiriya. This is a giant rock fortress that rises from the jungle. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The climb to the top has many steps. But it is worth it! Along the way, you will see beautiful old paintings called frescoes. At the top, the views are incredible. You can see for miles.

You will stay overnight in a hotel near Sigiriya.

Day 2: Golden Caves and a Sacred City

Today is all about culture and history. You will explore a unique cave temple and visit Sri Lanka’s cultural capital.

Morning: Dambulla Cave Temple

A short drive from Sigiriya is Dambulla. The Dambulla Cave Temple is another UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a temple built inside five big caves.

Inside, you will find hundreds of Buddha statues and colorful paintings on the walls and ceilings. The place is peaceful and very impressive. Remember to cover your shoulders and knees to show respect.

Afternoon: Journey to Kandy

Next, you will travel to Kandy. Kandy is a beautiful city surrounded by hills. It was the last kingdom of ancient Sri Lanka.

In the evening, you will visit the most famous temple in the country: the Temple of the Tooth Relic. This temple holds a sacred tooth of the Buddha. It is a very important place for Buddhists. The evening ceremony is full of drumming and tradition.

Day 3: The World’s Most Beautiful Train Ride

Get ready for one of the best experiences in Sri Lanka!

Morning: Explore Kandy

You can spend the morning exploring Kandy. Walk around the beautiful Kandy Lake or visit the Royal Botanical Gardens, which are full of amazing trees and flowers.

Afternoon: Train to Nuwara Eliya

This is the main event of the day. You will take a train from Kandy to Nanu Oya (the station for Nuwara Eliya).

This is not just any train ride. It is known as one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world. The train moves slowly through bright green tea plantations, misty mountains, and small villages. You will see waterfalls and wave to smiling children. It is truly unforgettable.

Day 4: A Taste of Tea Country

Today, you will explore the cool, green hills of Nuwara Eliya, also known as “Little England.”

Morning: Visit a Tea Plantation

You cannot visit Nuwara Eliya without seeing a tea factory. You will learn how tea leaves are picked and made into the Ceylon tea you drink. You can walk through the tea fields and even try picking some leaves. At the end of the tour, you get to taste a cup of fresh, delicious tea.

Afternoon: Discover “Little England”

Nuwara Eliya feels different from the rest of Sri Lanka. It has a cooler climate and buildings that look British. You can visit Gregory Lake for a boat ride or simply walk around the town and enjoy the fresh mountain air.

Day 5: The Journey Back Home

It’s the last day of your amazing trip.

Morning: Departure

Enjoy a final Sri Lankan breakfast in the cool hills. After that, you will start your journey back to the airport in Colombo (CMB).

The drive is long, but it is also very scenic. You will pass more tea estates and beautiful waterfalls like St. Clair’s and Devon Falls. It is a lovely way to say goodbye to the Sri Lankan hill country.

You will arrive at the airport with a heart full of wonderful memories.
